Social Media vs SEO

Social media vs SEO is like men are from Mars, women are from Venus.  SEO would be Mars: cold, rocky, and technical.  Social media would be Venus: passionate, energetic, and inspirational.  Many will attempt to enter these unfamiliar domains, yet few will succeed.

What Buyers Want: Optimizing Your Content

When you are looking to make a purchase - let's say a new laptop - what do you do? Do you hop on the phone and call up Apple to get product specs and pricing information? In 1990, yes. In 2011, absolutely not. The buyer no longer relies on vendors entirely. They surf the Internet, going to multiple online sources to get the information they want. The real question is, what is that information and are you, the vendor, communicating it effectively on your site?

More and more, marketers are hearing that content is king. And guess what? It's true. When was the last time you read a whitepaper that added real value to your research process? I'm racking my brain and finding it quite difficult to come up with anything. More often than not, today's whitepapers are really just masked sales pitches, too long to keep the attention of today's buyer. They aren't engaging the customer and are therefore not serving much of a purpose. So, now what?

In my recent post "It's on the Menu....", I touched on my loathing of 'Under Construction' as a page content. I guess I should now take the time to explain why I get so annoyed when I come across it on websites (and believe me, it appears more frequently than you may think!).

Social Media Strategies

Outline Your Goals In a recent article we discussed the growth of social media. To make this point even more clear, it took television 13 years to reach 50 million users while it only took Facebook 3 years to reach 100 million users. There is no dispute that social media will play a major factor in business models in the future.

The spread of broadband has made internet ubiquitous and provided people with a platform that is so powerful that all other media channels have been forced to take cognizance of it. Businesses too have been affected by the wave of what is termed Web 2.0.

Web 2.0 is essentially a phenomenon in which different information channels on the net are made available for the dissemination of information and ideas. The whole setup is democratic and regulated by a community approach. This leads to the generation of high trust levels amongst users.
